Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Gouhudug, Aomugen, Sonid Left Banner, Inner Mongolia. It was named by Yang Daorong in 1983.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone and Siltstone. A suite of clastic rocks. The bottom is composed of purple-gray conglomerate; the middle and upper parts, purple-gray medium-fine-grained greywacke interbedded with calcareous siltstone; the top, interbeds of purple sandstone and siltstone. Thickness 163 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Upper Devonian Seribayanaobao Fm (not in Lexicon)

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Ulanhudug Fm

Regional extent

Distributed around Sailinwule to Alatate at the intersection of the Sonid Right and Left Banners, its features are close to those of the Hongshuiquan Fm in the Ergun Right Banner

Fossils

The fossils in Lower part are dominated by Brachiopods Plicatifera? sp., Waagenoconchus nungermiaoensis, Camarotoechia turanica, Cyrtospirifer calcaratus, etc.; and in the Uppe part by Fusella ussiensis, F. kondonensis, Spirifer tornacensis, Camarotoechia acutirugata, etc.
